You may have already noticed that barely any women worked for Give Me Head Productions. If the company name didn’t put them off then we’re presuming that Cassidy probably did.
All jokes aside, the ’80s didn’t really care much for women; it just seemed to tolerate them to a point. That’s one reason why there’s a distinct lack of women in the office (even though Myra Lippit was responsible for arguably the most visionary concept in the whole of the Cyberia Universe). Also of no surprise, there are only 3 playable female characters in the story and one of those is a thief.
So what exactly is going on here? Truth be told that we don’t actually know how Las Madonnas came about. Our best guess is that during a meeting, Myra pointed out that having virtually no women in the story could isolate a hefty percentage of their target audience. After a four hour long argument about how women don’t understand tabletop role-playing games, somebody finally volunteered to work on a solution. However, when Myra quit, the idea quit with her.
We did, however, find some “ideas sketches” regarding Las Madonnas. Here is a sample (author unknown):
A gang of hot kick ass girls who travel around on roller skates. They wear those tight shorts and T-shirts which opens up the possibility of sexy merch and guaranteed sales.
They travel around several Cyberia districts in gangs, beating up terrible boyfriends or whatever. When one of them confronts a member of the Russian mafia, they don’t stand a chance and the gang gets obliterated.
They are called Las Madonnas.
We don’t think this is what Myra had in mind (presuming it even was Myra) and we haven’t found any further development. But as with all of these things, we’re expecting to find more information in due course so stay tuned…
