Like a newly discovered dinosaur bone by some nobodies on an acid-fuelled roadtrip, we think we’ve found some of the earliest pre-internet computer memes. From our non-archaeological understanding, these memes were shared on some sort of LAN (local area network) across nearly all the computers and a terminal.

At a push we think Ryba, Marty and Cassidy were the only ones left out of the mene machine. As we know, Marty abandoned his computer for a console so he never saw anything except whichever game he was playing. Ryba was simply left out because he was seen as the humourless Stasi which is a little unfair. As far as we can tell he never snitched on anybody because it wasn’t long before his dream had died but his presence remained owed to his unwavering loyalty to Cassidy.

Speaking of which Cassidy was left out because he was quite clearly the subject of the meme. The team soon learned Cassidy was like a manic stick of dynamite, prone to giving the occasional lecture that made no sense. If he ever saw the memes he would probably smash a computer up while yelling at everyone, sometimes making up words while he went along. By the time he’d ran out of steam, he would’ve long  forgotten why he was pissed and so he would slink off to his office, shut the door and presumably take drugs. A couple of hours later, he’d apologise and call for an office party. Hallelujah!

Fortunately these early memes survived. We don’t know who the authors are but judging from the variety of styles and quality, lots of Give Me Head employees were creating them.

The earliest one was created in August when the team were running out of optimism and believed that what they were creating was never going to see the light of day. Who would’ve thought that some donkeys from the north of England would unearth their weathered cyberpunk TV series some thirty years later.
