Cyberia Collectors’ Card #23 Jon Eric

#23 Jon Eric
Jon Eric as a toddler which was going to be a flashback scene in a later episode. The notes say he’s playing on a “32 bit powerhouse console that makes games look like real life.”
The old man himself.

“My Father is a massive wanker but I still love him.” –Jon Eric

District: Little Amsterdam

Occupation: Unemployed.

Jon Eric has arrived in Little Amsterdam at roughly the same time as Toby. However, the reason couldn’t be more different. Jon is the son of Gunther. Gunther has no idea that he has a son. It wouldn’t surprise him, however, because, owed to his massive pile of candy, Gunther’s had considerable success with the ladies. Statistically speaking, he’s the father of around thirty Cyberian sprogs.

Jon Eric knows that his father is a crystal pizza chef and he knows that finding him in Little Amsterdam will be easy. What he doesn’t know is how he will react when he comes face to face with the man himself. At times Jon Eric has wanted to kick his dad’s arse; at other times he has just wanted a nice warm fatherly hug. So Jon Eric has brought his trusted Llama Blade along just in case.

From the notes that we can still read, the plot quickly thickens when Jon Eric learns about another subject who has an interest in Gunther. The very first junkie hobo who Jon Eric questions tells him that somebody else was making enquiries earlier in the day. This is enough for Jon Eric to become concerned for his father’s well-being.

Jon Eric immediately locates his father’s dwelling. From here, it is all down to how the three players proceed. Will Gunther try to murder his son, mistaking him for the rival he’s been hearing about? Will Jon Eric try to chop off his father’s ear out of anger when they first meet? Or will Toby try to murder both of them in order to take control of Little Amsterdam’s crystal market? Or maybe it turns out that Toby is another long-lost sprog and the three of them live happily ever after.

It’s all to play for on the mean streets of Cyberia. Either way, it’s going to get messy.

Preferred Weapon: The Deadly Llama Blade. We’re not sure what makes this a “Llama” blade. It appears to be a regular fixed blade knife. As we have noted elsewhere, the Give Me Head team wasn’t particularly swish at weaponry designs. They would just add a lot of numbers and the letters X, Y and Z as if this made them futuristic.

Maybe there were guidelines which outlined what the names meant, but we are yet to find them. We are of the impression that the team would swerve this detail even though in cyberpunk gaming worlds, well developed weaponry is crucial for the combat element of gaming.

With this in mind, weaponry in Cyberia seems to be more a case of “Damn, gun!” than “Gundam!”

First pet name: a hamster called twat.
